So cool to see what the story is going to look like in print! Everything is sent off to Edge Press–just waiting to see the book when it comes out. The cover is awesome!

Just got home from the Calgary Public Library’s writers’ conference (which was, as always, fabulous) and learned that I sold a story to The Urban Green Man anthology coming out this summer from Edge Press! I’m pumped! My first sale for 2013!

One of the highlights for me of World Fantasy this year was running into R Scott Bakker, whom I hadn’t seen for several years. We had a great conversation, late into the night. Also, my reading was well attended by about 15 people, which really surprised me. Also, got my copy of Among Others signed by Jo Walton. The art show was small, but high quality. Good friends, good restaurants, Edge book launch!

Where do I start to rave about When Words Collide? Our numbers were up–over 400 attendees. The Keynotes were inspiring, especially Adrienne Kerr’s and Anthony Bidulka’s. Personally, I sold 4 paintings, read at my own reading, two book launches (and had a new story come out in OnSpec) and IFWA’s Bedtime Stories, attended a really well-run Aurora Awards banquet (I didn’t win for best short story, but congratulations to Suzanne Church, who did! Woot!) and some really fun parties. AND, I launched my first collection! But of course, the best part, as always, was the incredible energy of the participants from so many different genres of writing. And exhausting, but very satisfying weekend.

Yay! I was nominated for an Aurora Award in the short fiction category! My story, “Turning it Off” in Analog last December was eligible, and now I am on the short list! Thanks to everyone who nominated me, and congratulations to all my worthy opponents–some awesome names on that list!

I also got a second, side-ways nomination: the novel I edited, Technicolor Ultramall, by Ryan Oakley, was the first novel I edited for Edge. Also very exciting!

One more check over for nits, and then I send it in to Edge!

Got the story edited for OnSPEC and the chapter for Edge–have a new chapter to edit for them now! Took a couple of days to hike with my sister and saw some spectacular scenery. Perfect weather. Did a little over 50 k in 4 days, with a total of about 5000 ft elevation gain and loss. Some sore muscles, but good food and a good visit with my sister. AND I thought of another short story idea! Wow, and I still don’t have my last short story (that was workshopped) edited…

And, got my hotel room for World Fantasy, coming up in a little over a month!

Final proof edits for Technicolor Ultra Mall were approved by the author and sent in to Edge Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing yesterday, and they will finish the layout this weekend. Launch in the fall. Very exciting! Also, I finally bought paint, canvases and brushes and have completed two paintings, and am half way through the third. Plus, I have an idea for another short story–will likely get to that tomorrow when it rains.

Started it last week – I think it has promise. So much to do! But right now, I have Ryan’s novel back for one final look before I send it in to the publisher, so that is a priority. Back to writing in a couple of days!

Finished editing the novel for Edge (this round, at least) and want to get mucho short fiction out on the market in the next 2 days because Wednesday I head to the Olympic peninsula west of Seattle for Patrick Swensen/Fairwood Press’s writers’ retreat. THAT is reserved for my novel! Can’t wait!
